Mothers Day at Headingley

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s take a team to play at Headingley for what will probably be the last time.

We had a great day out, and as BJ shared out the chocolates to celebrate Mothers Day, the Leeds mascot Terry the Tyke came to sit with the team. Having tried to steal a few chocs and a pint of beer from one of the dads, he left us to it with his best wishes for a good game.

As Leeds Carnegie went into the break looking like they might record their second home league win of the season and get one step closer to avoiding relegation, the Knights took to the field against Keighley.

The game was tight on a very small pitch, but somehow BJ managed to squeeze free and put the Knights in front. Some great defending on their own line meant they were still in it when BJ broke free again and looked like he would double the lead - it wasnt to be, a last ditch tackle saw BJ sprawled across the Headingley turf with what would turn out to be a season ending dislocated shoulder and broken collar bone !

Still reeling, the Knights conceded a quick try, but then Corey, Liam, Olc, Ol D, Frazer, Rory, Josh and Joe pulled together and gave it their all - I was really proud of their efforts, but another try for Keighley was to prove too much for the Knights on the day.

Carnegie did go on to win, which was at least some comfort for BJ.

2 weeks to our Scarborough tour, and we are all really looking forwards to it - watch this space for updates.

FESTIVAL DAY AT LAST !

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s enter 2 teams into their home festival, the boys had prepared well and expectations were high. Both the reds led by Conor and the Blues by BJ had a genuine chance of making it through to one of the 2 knockout competition semi finals.

Both teams competed well throughout the morning, coming off second best in some very tight encounters, but all still smiling, and still believing they could acheive something from their day.

As lunch approached, there was a buzz about the place, would history repeat itself and the boys meet in the semi final again ? It wasnt to be, the boys had been drawn apart, but had a great opportunity to meet in the final. The last fit and standing players took to the field for battle, looking weary, but still believing. Conor led by example as he had done all day for the reds and took his team in search of a well deserved win, but it wasnt to be - they came up just short and like last year would go no further than the semi finals. In the other game, the blue team finally showed what they were capable of running in 3 great tries and celebrating all the way to the final. Could they go one step further than last year and win it for the squad ?

Unfortunately it wasnt to be, and the pain was clear to see for everyone - the boys had given everything, but for the second year running come up short in the final - 3rd time lucky next year ??

Well done boys, great effort from everyone - be proud and come back stronger - TOGETHER WE CAN !

One Week and Counting ...

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s left at Castle Park for another training session following the late cancellation of their game.

The boys wasted no time getting stuck into a full practice match and preparing themselves for next weeks festival.

We will field 2 very strong and very capable teams next week, and all eyes will be on Castle Park to see how the boys fayre in their home festival.

Great session today - good luck for next week and a special well done to players of the day Ol C and Liam.

Still Working Hard

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s training at Castle Park, and we took the opportunity to move onto the bigger pitch we will use next season, and play with next seasons rules. The boys had more space, extra players and the added interest of kicking.

Together we worked through the different stage of the game, and finished with a full game with all the players handling well, tackling strongly and some great kicking - both out of hand and in front of goal. Everybody thinks they can kick, but choosing the right kick at the right time and executing it well is a difficult art to master, and everyone showed some real promise.

Next week we are back to matches, with only a week to go until the Doncaster Junior rugby festival - good luck boys !

Back To Basics

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s back in training after a tough couple of weeks of matches. Next season, the boys will step up another level and introduce a second row to the scrums, a full back and the mysterious art of kicking.

Bit by bit we are starting to introduce these to the boys, and this morning saw us play our first practice match with a 5 man scrum, and the boys really handled it well.

With ears taped up the boys tried out a host of new positions, and they looked like they had been doing it for years.

Well done boys, a great effort all round, I can't wait until next season !!

A day out in Derbyshire

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s cross the border into Derbyshire for a rematch against Chesterfield. Earlier in the season the sides had drawn 10 - 10 at Castle Park and they were on the hunt for a more positive return.

The Knights had a great start and for a rare moment this season, they actually led the game and werent having to come from behind. Some excellent running from Corey and a great offload saw Joe run in a great try.

It wasnt long before Chesterfield were back in it and the sides were all sqaure going into half time.

Some fantastic tackling from the Knights kept them in it and the sides traded territory and possession throughout the second half but neither could break the deadlock and it finished honours even.

The effort was clear to see and the boys were gutted but they should be proud of their efforts.

Now the focus had to turn to game 2, both sides were keen to change the result, and 2 completely different sets of players took the field. The Knights were driven on by a battling Owain and they started to look like they might edge it. That was until Chesterfield sent on some of their more established players from the first game, and they just seemed to have too much fire power for the Knights.

The boys stuck at it and never gave up on the task - another fabulous effort.

Special mention to players of the day Aaron and Thomas - well done !

A tough day at the castle

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s host local rivals York in a keenly anticpated rematch. Earlier in the season York had dominated the fixture, and with the Knights finding the winning trail in recent weeks, they couldn't wait to get stuck in.

The first game was evenly contested until York finally got on the scoreboard, and they went on to open up a good lead. However the game wasn't over, and with a couple of small changes to the team, they threw everything at York and came within one score of tying the game. It was a really positive finish and a great platfrom to get back to winning ways.

The second game went in much the same way, York got off to a great start and opened up a lead only for Doncaster to fight their way back in. There was some huge effort on show and the Knights were unlucky to comne off second best.

The boys really worked York hard, and the improvement was there for everyone to see - next week we are off to Chestefield and determined to get back to winning ways !

Well done everyone and especially coaches award winneres Josh and Liam.

I own a TVR Sagaris, my pride and joy and the car I've always wanted. With all the bonnet vents, hand built engine and the car being hand built itself , I wanted to wash and clean the Sagaris with a product that doeant require gallons of water pouring into every nook and cranny of my car.

I recently met SJ at one our caravan shows, and after chatting with him, I thought I would give his product a go - and to say I am impressed would be an understatement!

I started by just spraying it onto the car first just to see what would happen and I was amazed to actually see the grime and dirt lift off the car and then with a quick buff the car is clean - Job done!!!

Then I went over it quickly with the other cloth provided and the car was clean and shining for everyone to see. I found it even gives a glossy polished feel and finish. The benefit is there is no water pouring into all the opening the car needs to keep cool, and no opportunity to cause longe term problems with the mositure. I now take the kit to shows, and tell everyone about it !

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s pick up exactly where they left off at Dinnington last weekend with a well deserved win.

This week the team have spent some time in the gym working on passing and support play, and they brilliantly carried it through to the game with several well worked tries coming from all over the pitch, back and forwards alike.

The boys worked really hard on a cold, damp and muddy morning in Matlock and should be really proud - bring on York next week.

Well done to every single one of you, especially players of the week - Jack and Conor - both try scorers !

Wet and Windy

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s back in training following their excellent performance at Dinnington last weekend. Training consisted of a number of team exercises to help the boys build further on their great team spirit.

The boys carried a stash of training kit, including a tackle shield, balls, cones, agility ladders, bibs and water bottles round a course. The aim was to run as a team and work together to ensure everyone and all the kit completed in tact and together. It was a huge success with all the teams completing the exercise.

Then we moved onto some group skills exercises which developed into a game. The rules of the game were simple - everyone had to muck in whatever their position, and tries would only count if the dive was bigger than Chris Ashtons for England in Cardiff on Friday night !

The session finished with some puddle surfing, and the weekly awards - well done to this weeks winners James and Frazer.

What a session - what a team - well done boys - keep making us proud !

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s take on more local rivals in the shape of Dinnington and Scunthorpe - and what a day !!

The team performed together and for each other, there was passion from every player and tries were free flowing. Only a last minute refereeing decision gave Dinnington a draw in the first game, but the team regrouped and went on to beat Scunthorpe.

This was an outstanding effort from every player, and the parents who never stopped shouting. Well Done to BJ and Corey on winning the coaches awards, but a big well done to everyone.

Onedrywash Expands Production

2010 was a challenging year for most small businesses, but against that back drop SJK products has continued to develop in all markets. So much so that over Christmas, the factory staff have worked hard to upgrade the facilities in preparation for the anticipated production increase for 2011.

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s take on local rivals Sheffield Tigers. The boys played 3 games allowing the ever growing squad of almost 30 players to all get some game time, and us as coaches to look at lots of different options.

Technically, the boys are playing some great rugby, and but for one or two missed tackles at the crucial moment, they would have recorded their first win of 2011.

As it was, they were one score away on each occasion !!

There was some great work in all 3 games, with special mentions to Thomas, James, Ryan, Corey and the Morgan - Lister coaches award winners BJ and Conor who led from the front all day.

Next week see us make the trip across to Dinnington with everyone believing the win is coming ...

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s back in action for the first time in 2 months, and what a great job they did.

The visitors to Castle Park were Hull Ionians - who are renowned for their tough, direct playing style, and would be a great test for the team.

The boys got stuck in and stood toe to toe throughout, unfortunately coming off second best by the narrowest of margins.

We were really proud of what the boys acheived today, and if this is a sign of things to come - we cant wait !!

Final Preparations

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s back into full training in preparation for next weeks game against Hull Ionians. We started the day with our post Christmas fitness tests - which everyone managed to complete........ just !!!!

The pitch was still a bit firm, but the boys worked really hard and finished with a great game of touch and pass. well done everyone, especially player of the day Ryan. Bring on Ionians !!

New Years day saw a chance for the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s to go behind the scenes at Headingley as Leeds Carnegie prepared to play Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership. They must have had an impact as Leeds went on to record their first win fo the season. Huge thanks to fromer British Lions favourite John Bentley for the time he gave to the boys.

After an extended Christmas break due to the bad weather, the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s finally returned to training on Thursday night. It was a cold, wet foggy night under the lights, and the boys were blowing a bit form the excess of Christmas, but it wasnt long before they were back in their stride and looking like a rugby team again.

Sunday saw us head to the park for an extra session, due to the first team playing at home. It was cold but bright, and once again ghe boys were soon throwing themselves into it well done boys and special mention to player of the day - Conor !

Helping out the Professionals !!

On Saturday Corey and Liam from the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s were mascots for the clubs professional team as they took on Bristol at Castle Park. The boys joined our team earlier this season, and have worked really hard to earn their chance to run out with the first team captain.

It was also Corey's birthday so it was an extra special day - I think you can see that from the smiles - well done boys !!

A bright but cold Sunday morning saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s training for their game against Matlock next weekend. We were privileged to have a visit from our first team Mentor Chris and Onedrywash Chairman Tim Jones.

Hopefully what they saw was the boys really bouncing back from a touch week at the office in York last weekend. They trained really well, and really looked composed and confident on the ball. Hopefully we can take this to match day next weekend.

A Sunday to Remember

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s make the trip north up the A19 to York, always a tough trip, and this year was no exception.

It was remembrance Sunday, and the boys took time as a team to remember those who had given their lives whilst fighting for their country, with an impeccable period of silence - well done and thanks boys.

The rugby was a very different affair, with lots of noise off the field and on it, amongst the confusion which seemed to reign throughout the first game.

We were playing on a huge pitch with a free flowing referee which often made it difficult for the boys to understand the decisions when the ref went back to them, but we got the hang of it and scored some great tries following some huge efforts. Frazer scored his first try of the season (second of his life !!) following last weeks strange decision not to reward him when he crossed the line, and the effort from the whole team meant we finished the stronger.

We changed the entire team for the second game, and things seemed to go much smoother with clearer direction from the ref making it easier for the boys to get on with what they had come to do - play rugby and enjoy themselves. Some big tackling from some of the backs, and a massive effort from eventual player of the day - Ryan saw a much closer game second time around.

Some valuable lessons were learned - play to the ref, focus on your game and most important keep having fun, which is exactly what we did - great effort, well done boys !!

Try Fest In Sheffield

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s make the short trip down the M18 to Abbeydale Park in Sheffield.

After an energetic warm up, the boys took on Sheffield and despite having crossed the line with what looked like a great try for Frazer, it was Sheffield who edged ahead. It was a titanic battle, with the forwards working hard to knock each other over, and the backs passing and runnng with real style - was it finally clicking into place - well almost, but game 2 was to prove the highlight of the day.

After a short break, and a few changes, the team set about putting things right from the first game, and boy did they. With tries for forwards and backs, some of the best passing and running we have seen this season, the Knights bossed from start to finish, conceding only once late on, but having scored a hatful themselves.

A fantastic effort, a great game and a deserved result - well done boys, and especially player of the day Lewi.

The Headingley Experience

Sunday saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s visit Headingley stadium, they had the chance to play at half time during the Aviva Premiership game between Leeds Carnegie and London Wasps.

12 of the squad left Doncaster, just as it seemed the sun was starting to break through, but arrived at Headingley to a damp, grey autumn sky. Nothing was going to spoil this day, the boys - beaming from ear to ear made their way into the stadium, collected their commerative water bottles and headed for their seats.

With one or two notable exceptions, the boys cheered on Carnegie as they searched for their first league win of the season, and then just before half time, we found a quiet corner and prepared for our game.

Under the floodlights and on a fantastic surface, BJ led the team out onto the Headingley pitch, and the game began.

The 12 minutes we were allowed shot past, and I am not sure any of us remember much about the game except for a fabulous try from Thomas - but I do know everyone left the field with the same smile they went on with, taking time to wave to the crowd on their way off.

This was a fantastic day, enjoyed by players, parents and coaches alike. Thanks to Dave for refereeing, and to the parents for getting the boys there - but most of all to Helen and her team at Leeds Carnegie for the invite.

Lets hope the boys can carry this enthusiasm through to next weeks game against local rival Sheffield and Rotherham !!

Autumn Arrives

This morning saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s head out into probably our coldest morning of the year so far. a light frost overnight and the shelter from the trees made the pitch feel really cold for our last training session before our trip to Headingley next week.

We started with our time trials, which are designed to get the boys wanting to be at their sharpest for the team and introduce a bit of 'friendly' rivalry in the team.

This morning was fantastic with every body giving their all with some great results.

The whole team worked really hard on a really fresh morning, and I am looking forwards to seeing what they can produce at Headingley next weekend - good luck boys !!

the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s are really lucky to have a great bunch of parents who follow them all over the county to watch them play and shout on their support. Sunday is never Sunday without the rumble of a Northern Irish accent from Brian shouting for Conor and the boys.

Nothing is ever too much trouble for Brian, and he faithfully rode and drove his way round the half marathon course recently to support Jo on her fundraising epic.

Not satisfied with his contribution to that cause, when asked recently to support some friends on a sponsored abseil, Brian went one further and launched himself from the top of the stand at Doncaster race course to help raise money - well done Brian, we are all very proud of you !!

A Special Day Out

In a couple of weeks, the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s will get a chance to play at half time during the Aviva Premiership game between Leeds Carnegie and London Wasps. As part of the build up, Leeds Carnegie asked BJ if he would like to be mascot for their Amlin Auropean Challenge cup game at home to Stade Francais, and siad he could take a couple of his mates for a look round.

BJ and the 2 Ols spent some time pitch side before getting the chance to rummage around the home teams dressing room and try on a couple of the players shirts. They then helped themselves to a bottle of Gatorade before heading into the tunnel to watch the build up. As SKY tv gave the go ahead, BJ was grinning from ear to ear and shaking like a leaf. Marcus Wentzel entered the tunnel and took BJ down the steps of his favourite ground and onto the Headingley pitch, and before he knew it, it was over and he headed back up the stairs.

Thanks to everyone at Headingley for a great day, the boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and cant wait to come back and play in a couple of weeks.

A great day for the new boys !

Sunday saw the first opportunity for the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s to field 2 teams on one day, meaning everyone was going to get a couple of games under their belts. This was a great opportunity for those who hadnt played yet, or not got much rugby under their belts to combine with some of the more experienced players and play rugby. And what a day, the blue team drew against a plucky Chesterfield, thanks to a long range try from BJ and some great tackling from Corey, Thomas and the Twins. They then went down to a competitive Selby team who set out with one intention and got their wish. It wasnt for a lack of effort from anyone in Blue, it just wasnt to be their day !

The Red team had a different challenge, they were to play back to back games against a fresh Selby team, made up of a similar mix of players, and they set about showing the blue team what rugby was all about. A great effort from Ryan in his first ever game, brought him a try, and new Scrum half Oliver drove his troops forward to earn a great draw in game one.

Game two was going the same way, lots of hard work and running before it looked like Selby were going to break free. A last ditch tackle from player of the day helped ensure a second draw - a great days rugby !

The important thing out of today was seeing everyone get a chance to play, and some of the smiles told their own story.

Back to training next week for the boys, before a trip to Headingley to play at half time in the Aviva Premiership game against London Wasps.

SJ hard at Work

SJ is demonstrating our range of cleaning kits to members of the public, whilst Towsures staff are on hand to help. This week saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s, make the short trip down the M62 to Hull Ionians. Its always a tough place to go, they seem to breed giants in Humberside and the bright Sunday morning sunshine made them look even bigger !!

Nothing seemed to phase the boys today though, and they played some of the best rugby we have seen - creating solid platforms at the break down, and despite getting limited ball from the set piece - the ginats were proving hard to shift, what we did get, we moved well and the wingers saw plenty of chances to run. Despite spending most of the 2 games camped in the opposition half, we fell for the sucker pucnh a couple of times and Ionians scored on the break to take control and win the day.

We are really proud of what we acheived today, and there wont be many times we play that well and end up on the wrong end of the result. Well done everyone, especially Ben and Joe our players of the day.

Onedrywash would like to thank all at Salop Leisure for inviting us once again to their model review for next year. The annual show previewed the 2011 model range and invites were sent to all their valued customers.

Onedrywash will be on hand to demonstrate Caravan, motorhome and car cleaning kits and this year will be showing their new hibernation kit.

The show is ornganised by Salop Leisure - Emstrey, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, SY5 6DS - find them on google.

Severnside Lions Scooter Club in name has been around since 1970’s and even with the typical playing round with possible name changes that clubs seemed to toy with in the 80's our name was the one the traditionalists within Shrewsbury still stuck with. But sadly with so many clubs it was folded for the usual reasons. But like all good things Severnside Lions Scooter Club was resurrected in 1999 by a group of Scooterists that wanted to put Shrewsbury back on the scootering map. A few of the original members thrown in with some new blood gave us the club we have today. We are the typical fun loving bunch of people from all walks of life and parts of the scooter scene who enjoy what we all love Rallies, Music and of course BEER!! Some might say you have to have a sense of humour and a very thick skin to be a part of our club, but we aren't all that bad really. We meet on the last Thursday of each month at the Red Barn pub on Longden Road in Shrewsbury. We are always looking for new members who wish to be a part of club, but even if you are a member of another club but are in the area everyone is welcome to pop along for a chat and a pint or two!!

This weekend saw the first games for the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s, and what a start - 2 good wins and a draw which with a bit more luck could have been a win too.

The boys headed to Driffield and played against teams from Driffield, Pocklington and a mixed opposition, and despite the pouring rain, they stuck to their task and played some great rugby. There were try scorers throughout the team, and some great defensive efforts, and most importantly some great support from the parents.

Special mention to vice captain Conor who had the task of captaining the side for part of one game, and really rose to the challenge, to James, Liam, Lewi and Frazer who worked tirelessly in the forwards to give Owain and BJ plenty of ball to work the back with, and to Thomas who ran all day for the cause.

At the same time as the team was playing, Team Jo was running her first half marathon to raise money for the team - Brian followed round the course on his bike to keep Jo motivated, and Andrea, Lauren and Harriet shouted on from the sidelines. Despite the awful conditions, Jo finished in just over 2 hours raising over £300 for the team - well done and thanks Jo !!

A fresh autumn morning greated the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10's as they entered the last Sunday session before their matches start next weekend. This morning was about getting match ready, and we spent most of the morning playing short games to put into practice the last month of training exercises.

What a great session, everyone stepped up to the plate, BJ looked to be recovering some form after injury with a hatful of tries, Thomas was back running and tackling like we know he can and Liam was charging round like trojan horse - must have been the new boots !!!! - he was rewarded with player of the day.

Next week sees the team make the trip up to Driffield, and we are all really looking forwards to getting stuck in - although part of us will be thinking about Jo on her fundraising Half Marathon - Good Luck from all of us.

Wet Weather Training

As the start of the match playing season approaches,the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s, are still working hard to be ready. Sunday saw us doing our fitness tests again with almost everyone improving on the times they had set a couple of weeks ago. Well done everyone, only a couple of weeks and we will really start to see the rewards I am sure.

As the start of the season approaches, the team have chosen their captains for this season, and they are :

BJ - now enetering his 4th season as captain. He is recovering nicely from his broken collar bone and hopes to be fit for our first game. BJ is a huge Leeds Rhinos fan and hopes one day his beloved South Standers are copying the song of his hero Brent Webb - ' Ben Howe is Superman!'.

Ol C - for the second season will be the Vice Captain to BJ. The pair are great mates and work really hard together. Ol loves his sport and is a huge fan of Sheffield Steelers Ice Hockey team - stick to the rugby mate, it looks much safer to me !

Conor - was voted to join the team this year, and brings a forwards opinion to the party. Conor Loves his rugby and would rather be playing with his mates or watching some rugby than anything else.

Stepping Up The Training

Sunday 12th September

Sunday was week 2 of training for the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10s, and with yet more new faces joining the squad, there was going to be a lot to cover. First things first, the boys were issued with their new Onedrywash sponsored training kits, and once again they turned heads as they left the dressing room. This years training kit also carries the logo of CLAPA - the cleft lip and palate association, and there will be more news on the teams links with them over the next few week.

For the first time this season, the 'donkeys' headed off for some scrummaging and line out practice, and the 'girls' went off to compare new boots and do a bit of passing practice. It is always difficult for any new player, especially coming into an established squad, but couple that with the daft rules of having to run forwards and pass backwards, and this is a difficult game for anyone to master - But by the end of the session, we had a game of semi contact rugby, that started to resemble the real thing - we are on our way !!

Well done to everyone for working so hard, and especially Owain - our player of the week.

A Run in the Sun

Ready to go!

This morning saw the Onedrywash sponsored Doncaster Knights under 10’s return to full training in the build up to their first game in October. It was like we had never been away, the boys were there bright and early and hit the field ready to train. Todays aim was to blow away the cobwebs, and we set about 90 minutes of running, more running and a bit more running, and rounded off the day with the first time trials of the season, with the boys recording times for 10m, 20m, 40m sprints and a 3 lap run.

It was a great session, enjoyed by all – and we welcomed 3 new faces to the team.

This is an important season for the boys, as we move ever closer to the ‘big pitch’ , the game moves one step closer to the one they watch their heroes play on TV.

The boys are back and raring to go – watch this space to see the new kit unveiled and news on the teams charity work for this season.

Thursday saw the team have one of their now famous summer get togethers, but
with only a month to go, the real work started!!

and so it begins ...

The boys were put through their paces for over an hour, and miraculously were all still standing at the end (or at least crawling!!). The key to success is team work followed closely by fitness, and these session are designed to work on both of these. With Captain BJ joining in for the first time since breaking his collar bone a month ago, he lead the team through their running drills, before bowing out as it got more 'physical'.

The boys looked in good shape and certainly good spirits, heres to another great season - good luck boys!

Giving a junior rugby team a season full of exciting new experiences, kitting them out and touring all costs money! Whilst we really appreciate the support we get from Onedrywash, we never take it for granted. With that in mind Jo has set about raising as much as she can for the team with a summer full of running.

Wednesday night saw the annual Doncaster road race, and yet another challenge for Jo - and one she rose to, setting a personal best time over the testing 5k course. Thanks to everyone who has sponsored Jo so far; we are now over £200 and still got the half marathon to go - good luck Jo!!

The story doesn't end there. Loz, BJ and Joe were joined by friends, Dan and Romany, to take on the 1 mile fun run and all did really well, managing to drag the 'enthusiastic' Brian round too!

Thanks again to Ian, Ol and Harriet who yet again turned up to support!

Newlyweds, Sarah and Andy

Saturday 10th July saw some of the team and coaches head off to celebrate the wedding of Sarah and Andy - 2 of our band of vocal followers!

We had a great evening, and it was good to see the boys never missing a chance with a game of rugby taking place in the gardens using a teddy bear!!

Thomas looked very smart for the occasion despite tearing his trousers, and he managed to keep his audience amused for the entire day!!

Congratulations to Sarah and Andy from everyone at the Knights and best wishes for the future.

Girls do their bit for the team

Sunday 4th July saw the annual Jane Tomlinson Leeds 10k road race, drawing competitors from all over the country including a heavily pregnant Paula Radcliffe, Joe Swash, Gemma Atkinson and Emmerdale's very own ‘Eric Pollard’!

In it together

Jo and Sharon headed to Leeds to compete and raise money for their chosen beneficiaries – Jo has been running a series of races this summer to raise money for the rugby team, and having already completed her first off road race with the Sandall Beat 10k in Doncaster, it was time for race 2.

The girls met eagerly at 7:45am in the hotel, with their personal bag men (Mick and Mark) and headed for the start. Once the girls were safely delivered, the boys headed to McDonald's for a well deserved breakfast before beginning their zig-zag across the city to support the girls along the route.

Joined by Ian and his family, we all took up position by the finishing straight and waited for the girls – first we saw a heavily pregnant Paula Radcliffe, then a couple of smurfs, a clown, a couple of other celebrities, then through the crowd we saw Jo, she managed to give the cheering kids a wave as she passed us by. Then we saw a shark, big bird, a limping ‘Eric Pollard’ and over the hill came a ‘smiling’ Sharon – great news we were all in time for lunch !!

Thanks to the girls for their efforts – and don’t forget Jo is planning to do the Doncaster town centre 5k and a half marathon later in the year to continue raising money so its not too late to sponsor her.

My role is to look after our existing customers and further develop our relationships with them, whilst searching our new potential markets and growing the business in those areas. As this business develops, it is hoped I will be able to develop a sales team to support this.

Having qualified in IT at DeMontfort University in Leicester, I did the honourable thing and tried a career in IT at the British Library. It didn't take long for me to realise that I wasn't going to fit in with the IT crowd, so I headed for the sales world. Having cut my teeth as a door to door insurance salesman, I soon joined the world of Reg Vardy in car sales - not a bad job if you like 7 days a week, 12 plus hours a day and limited holidays. I went on to join Andrew Page selling parts to the motor industry before joining Pro-Align as a sales manager for garage equipment. 11 years ago I joined Autoglass as a business manager, I went on to spend time running branches - winning manager of the year, before becoming part of the
team that set up a specialist repair business within Autoglass. That's where I first met SJ, and some would say it was only a matter of time. None of my colleagues were really surprised when I announced that I would be joining Onedrywash.

Outside work, my family is very important to me. I have been married to Jo for almost 13 years and have 2 wonderful children - Lauren who is almost 12 and Ben who is 9. Any spare time not taken up running the kids to their various clubs and activities is taken up with rugby. I coach at Doncaster Knights and help out with the local school team as well as being a season ticket holder at Leeds Rhinos.

BJ and Aaron

Congratulations to Aaron and BJ who have once again been chosen to represent their school team - despite being 3 years younger than most of the team!!

Last week, they took part in the South Yorkshire finals at Barnsley Rugby Club, where they finished in the top 3. A fantastic acheivement from the 570 teams that set out on the journey.

This week, they headed to the Yorkshire finals under the watchful eye of coach Mark, and aimed for a place in the National Finals. They worked really hard, and made it through to the final group stages only to miss out in the last round of games – well done boys !

Ready Willing and Able

This weekend saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass^® sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s head to Scarborough for their annual tour. The boys and their families arrived Friday night having travelled from far and wide – Roger (Owains Dad) was stuck in Russia at the start of the week and had to make his way across Europe single handed to be with us – but he made it – well done!!

Once we had all arrived, we headed out for a pre match feast of pizza and burgers before dancing the night away (Ian and Dave led the way).

Sunday saw us head to Scarborough rugby club where the boys were treated to a pre tournament parachute display before getting on with the ‘serious’ stuff – some rugby !

As is often the theme, the Knights were a bit slow out of the blocks and lost their first game, but that would be their last defeat of the day. Having come from behind to draw with Sunderland , the boys finished the day against Northern, and what a finish it was. As coaches it felt like a whole seasons work had clicked into place. We made a couple of positional changes and the game opened up with some of the best passing and support our backs have shown this season, and some excellent work from the forwards to create a platform. The boys worked just as hard in defence and won the game comfortably, putting themselves right in the mix for the next day.

The fun was only just beginning, as we headed back to our caravan site, the ‘ladies’ on tour felt the urge to challenge the men to a game of touch rugby. Captain BJ offered to referee with the other boys acting as touch judges and support from the sides. The ‘ladies’ played rough from the start and it wasn’t long before BJ had the yellow card out! We finished the afternoon with our annual presentations, which saw Frazer win the player with the most endeavour, Conor win the most improved player with Oliver in second place and BJ beat Harry to win the players player of the season.

Sunday saw us all head back to the rugby club, with one eye on what looked like a tropical storm brewing overhead, we started the day as we left off with a well earned win against Harrogate which Saw Frazer back up his award with a great supporting try. In our next game, we went from one injury to the next, and ended with our last 9 fit players on the field and a narrow defeat. It would all come down to the last game of the season, the last 10 minutes for the boys to make some memories, and boy did they. They picked themselves up, dusted themselves down and threw everything at Ilkley coming out as well deserved winners – mainly down to the strong tackling of Thomas, BJ and James.

Sunday saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass^® sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s make the short trip up the A19 to take part in the Selby Festival. The sun was in the sky, and despite some players and supporters being stuck oversees, the team was confident that this was their chance to shine. The day got off to a great start with a hard earned draw against Moortown. Only a curious decision to disallow what looked like a great try from the skipper kept the team level.

There was no break before the boys were onto their next game and with a well earned win against the hosts it looked like the day was going to plan. The boys had a long break before their next game, and the refreshment break looked to takes its toll against a giant Dinnington side who looked to be able to destroy anything in its path. A defeat meant that the result of the last game between Moortown and Selby could make the difference between qualification and a trip home. After an even first half, Moortown stepped up a gear and their result meant they went through to the semi finals on points difference.

Doncaster Knights under 9’s

Sunday saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass^® sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s head up the A19 to York for another festival of rugby. This was a great chance to challenge ourselves against new opposition with teams travelling from Cheshire , Lancashire and beyond. And challenged we were, the first game saw the team draw with a strong Chester team and despite loosing their captain at half time to a Knee injury, the boys battled away and conceded a late try for the draw.

Between games, the boys decided they could take on the world, and boosted by the recovery of captain BJ, the team threw everything at the rest of the day. Unfortunately there were some really strong teams on display, and the knights despite 100% effort from everyone just failed to make the knock out stages of the festival. The lads were gutted at first, but a reminder from the coaches about the rules of the team soon saw everyone with a smile back on their faces and remembering what a great day playing rugby they had had.

This is a team who are building in confidence every week, and learning their craft. They will go on to have some great times together and who knows they may even pick up a trophy or two along the way, and some of them may grace out TV screens in years to come – Well done boys – Keep up the hard work !!

Doncaster Knights under 9’s

Sunday 21st saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s take on all comers in the festival of junior rugby at Castle Park. For many of the team, this was the first time they had experienced this sort of day, and it would prove to be valuable learning for everyone.

We were able to field 2 teams, which stretched our resources to the full, meaning all 18 players on duty faced the prospect of at least 3 games without a break. But this didn’t seem to phase any of them, as they set about their task.

The 2 captains for the day, BJ and Joe, led their teams from the front, and they battled hard as teams, the highlights being a well earned draw against Otley for the red team, and a fantastic 40 – 0 win for the blue team against local rivals, Selby.

As lunch time arrived, the boys were really starting to get into the flow of the day, and with 4 tired coaches, and a whole stack of hoarse families on the sidelines, it was down to the head coach to break the news we had all been dreading ………….

……. Both teams had made the semi finals, but the journey for one team would have to end here as they had drawn each other !!!!

The Semifinal was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of a family loss this week, and then both teams got stuck into each other like they were complete strangers! They banged into each other, knocked each other over and ran for all their worth, and the effort was clear to see, and was summed up by Josh from the red team who chased BJ all the way to the line before tackling him and causing BJ to spill the ball – no try – well done Josh.

Eventually the blue team came out on top, and would go on to the final. The boys were starting to tire now, so some of the red team were enrolled as substitutes for the final.

This was it; the boys had got to the final with a smile on their faces, and they just needed one more effort, but it wasn’t to be. As one by one the substitutes were called into play, the 9 men left on the field had run themselves to water and given their all for the team, only to be edged out by a solitary score.

It was tough for the boys, but the smiles on the photo show the day was a huge success, and as each player collected their medal, perhaps only the parents were really left to wonder what might have been. BJ shook every player by the hand, and as they came together for the photos, all was forgotten and the smiles returned.

WELL DONE BOYS – YOU SHOULD BE REALLY PROUD OF YOUR EFFORTS

The festival has a proud tradition of fun for everyone, and being played at Castle Park – the home of the most promoted rugby team in English rugby history - gives it a special edge.

We will field 2 teams this weekend, reds and blues, both of whom will be proud to carry the name of OneDrywash on their chests. Team captain BJ and Joe have both said they are really excited and hope to do the club, their families and the OneDrywash name proud.

Knights continue their winning ways

As was always the plan this season, the Onedrywash and Autoglass^® sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s have worked very hard at the transition from TAG to contact rugby. There was never a rush to ‘win games at any cost’, we wanted to make sure the boys got to grips with the game step by step, and despite the weather since Christmas, that plan is coming to fruition with the side undefeated in the second half of the season so far.

Sunday saw the visit of Old Brodlians to the castle, and the Knights wasted no time in putting them to the sword racing into an early lead with almost the first play of the game. The team worked really hard and pressured Old Brods into mistake after mistake allowing them to kick on for a great win. Player of the day – Scrum half Ol really directed his troops and with a couple of tries to his name took the game by the scruff of the neck. Captain BJ and the rest of his backs line put into practice what they have been learning, and managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over for an impressive win.

Game 2 saw a complete change of playing personnel for the Knights and a renewed enthusiasm from Old Brods, but some determined running from Conor and aggressive ‘wrestling’ from Fraser saw the knights hang in there until game 2 captain Joe popped up on the wing to race in for a try to tie up the game.

Cold Weather Training for the Knights

Sunday 31st January saw all games called off for the Autoglass^®and Onedrywash^® sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s, but not to be out smarted by the weather, the team found a spare bit of land behind the pitches and spent a couple of hours running through their drills. Plenty of passing, running, lineouts, and break down practice was the order of the day.

Sunday saw SJ make one of his now famous waterlogged trips North. Everytime he has been to see the boys over the last couple of seasons, it has rained, been cold and generally very unwelcoming!

Fear not – the boys decided to make it a day to remember, and with the visit of Sheffield Tigers who act as a feeder club to the first team, they set about putting the many pieces of the jigsaw together all in one game. All season, we have done different things really well as a team, but today – as if to honour the water logged SJ, the boys put everything together in one game, and it was fabulous to watch.

Top Tackler, Dan, lead by example. Harry and Lewi celebrated their birthdays with a massive effort for the team, and the Captain himself – BJ, seems to be settling into his new role at Stand Off, and at last finding some space to open the backs up for a run.

It was a cold, wet and muddy day for everyone, particularly our visitor from the South, but we were all warmed through by this massive effort from the boys, who never once moaned about the conditions, and did everything that was asked of them. BJ launches his back line

Sunday saw the One Drywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s head out to the countryside with a first-ever trip to Market Rasen.

Having squeezed into the smallest changing room on record, the boys couldn’t wait to get out into the country air and get stuck in. After a thorough warm up, the boys set about trying to overturn the unwanted record of losing the first game each week! Last week's training really looked to have paid off as the forwards set about doing the work that had earned them the nickname of the ‘donkies’ and they worked hard to secure plenty of ball to make the backs look good and, but for a couple of missed tackles, the knights gave their best performance of the season but were once again just edged out.

We made several changes for the second game, including some positional ones but were able to pick up where we left off, and for the first time this season, we rolled the ball through several phases and took the lead in a game.

Not for long though. As the boys were still patting each other on the back and enjoying their moment, the Rasen boys picked up the tempo and again a couple of missed tackles cost the Knights. The game continued to go back and forth, but some excellent handling and brilliant running saw Conor go close, before Thomas ran almost onto the next door pitch to score and secure another game-2 win.

Next week sees the visit of Sheffield Tigers to Castle Park and I know we are all looking forward to more of the great attacking play we saw today, especially as SJ is coming to watch!! Well done to everyone, and a special mention to Thomas as top tackler, Conor as top metre maker, Owain for an outstanding effort for the team and BJ who was player of the week.

Sunday was due to see the One Drywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s take on big local rivals Rotherham Titans in an attempt to overturn the first team's narrow loss the previous day. Unfortunately, the Titans were unable to field a team, and the Knights got the opportunity to take on a tough training session under the autumn sun.

Whilst the boys love to play, it is important during this massive year of transition that they get the chance to work on the new skills without the pressure of an opposition, and that’s exactly what we did.

Today was about getting the team working for each other, understanding more about the different roles of forwards and backs – the main one being the pretty coloured boots and the great looking hair sported by most of the backs, as opposed to the up and at ‘em mentality of the forwards.

We spent the morning looking at how the forwards could win, steal, and/or secure ball and give the backs the best opportunity to show their lovely boots to the crowd as they ran past. We included a couple of the Rotherham players who had turned up, and they introduced some exciting new thoughts which helped the Knights fire up. After an hour, we re-introduced the backs to the forwards, and ran through some game scenarios. The forwards rucked and mauled for all their worth, and the backs had space to run and let the wind whistle through their flowing locks.

This was an important session for the boys in terms of understanding the differences in the roles but more importantly how they fit together on game day, and we as coaches were really proud of their achievements.

Remembrance Sunday at Castle Park

Lest we forget....

Sunday saw the One Drywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s host local rivals, Sheffield. The boys started with a minute's silence at 11am and a moment to remember those who have given their lives for our country.

Once the game got started, Doncaster did their best to hold onto a free-flowing hard-running Sheffield side, but seemed to come off second best in contact, and the one-man breaks from a very experienced looking scrum half were hard to track. Credit to the boys though; they battled right the way to the end of the game and gave their all for the cause.

Strictly Come Rugby!

The coaches spent some time talking about working as a team, and the pride of walking from the field with their heads held high, and being able to say they had given their all. We then made some changes and set about the task. The boys worked tirelessly and not for the first time this season (infact it's becoming a weekly event!!), the boys turned the defeat around, and the all-winning Sheffield side were held to their first draw of the season. The boys played with real passion and worked for each other, and it was great to see Ethan stand tall as player of the day, having rucked and mauled his way to near exhaustion !!!!

The effort from everyone in and around the team is really starting to pay off, and I am really proud to say I have been a part of the boys' development until now – good luck boys; keep working hard.

World Gnome fishing championships - Hull 2009

We have been spoilt so far this season, playing deep into October in fabulous sunshine and balmy temperatures. But Sunday saw the first Winter rugby for the season, and for many of our new players, yet another step in their long rugby roads!

We headed down the M62 to Hull Ionians, and after 30 minutes in the dressing rooms, we decided we could hide no more and headed out on our expedition to the pitches. Not sure whether to run, paddle or swim, the boys reluctantly headed out. We had a good warm up and, despite the weather, we looked promising with some really slick handling – always a worry to the coaches when we look this good in warm up!

Eventually, Hull found their way to the pitch and we got started on the first of our 2 games for the day. The boys worked really hard and played exactly how they had been taught; just a shame that the opposition, and at times the referee, seemed to be playing a different game! It was a very physical and a very wet game, and I am only glad it wasn’t my turn to wash the shirts this week!

The boys battled well and kept plugging to the end, but weren’t really given the space to play by a ‘keen’ Hull side on a very small pitch, and we came off second best.

With water in places not to be mentioned, it would have been easy to call it a day and head back to the warm, but after a short huddle together, most of the knees had stopped knocking and the teeth stopped chattering so we decided to give it another go! This time, we offered to referee and the boys slotted back into the routine they know best – knocking down the big men and running hard and straight at the opposition. Some great team work and good passing saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Knights under 9’s record another great victory and, for the second game in a row, turn defeat into victory against a powerful opposition. It was an outstanding effort by everyone, with the pieces of the jigsaw slowly starting to come together – watch this space!

I don't like to have to do this - but!!

Sunday 18th saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s make the short trip up the A19 to Selby

It's always a tough trip, and as the winter viruses started to rob us of one or two players. It was looking harder by the minute. In game one, the first quarter was evenly matched, and the Knights tackling and desire seemed to have improved massively from last week, but eventually Selby broke the dead lock and with it, the Knights' hearts. The team battled well and got to half time still in touch with the opposition, but it was clear Selby wanted to inflict defeat on the auld enemy, and they kept coming. The forwards worked tirelessly and the 2 James’s ran at anyone and everyone, while Jack and Conor set about knocking down the Selby runners. The effort never stopped and the team was rewarded late on with a great solo effort from the Skipper.

Between games, the coaches talked to the players about belief and the feeling of having given their all. We talked about how Ian (sadly absent today due to an unplanned stay in hospital) would be twitching in his bed at the thought of the boys not enjoying themselves. All we asked was that they put a smile back on their faces and remembered "together we can".

The second game started very tightly again, but this time it was the Knights who got the upper hand as they looked to be settling back into their stride. Once again, the forwards set about ‘banging’ into people and now the backs found the confidence to start running and handling like we know they can. It was a fantastic effort and the reward was a well deserved – a massive turn around that every player should be proud of .

Sunday saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s enter into their first competitive game following their exhibition at Headingley last weekend.

Everyone was up for the challenge of a Newark side who had beaten all comers in their opening tournament last weekend. The dressing room bounced to the sound of Scouting for Girls as the team prepared for battle. They trained well and looked ready for the challenge, but this was new territory. The boys were no longer trying to knock over a team mate in training; they now had complete strangers trying to knock them down, and the first half took its toll. After some changes and some words from the coaches, the team set about the second half with renewed vigour, and started to put into practice some of what they had learned. They looked much more relaxed and started to pass, tackle and even fight for the ball. The result didn’t go their way, but the team came a long way during this game. During the second game, the team looked to be working much better together, and resisted the advances of Newark for a longer period. They battled hard and were once again edged out of a competitive game.

Today's experience will be invaluable to the team, and they will go from strength to strength as the season progresses. I was especially proud of the efforts of everyone today and the smiles afterwards. The boys knew they had been tested, but know what they have to work on. Well done to Jack who took the Player of the Day having contributed massively in both games, and to BJ who ran himself to a standstill for his team. A special mention to Josh who broke with tradition by scoring so early in the season, and to Thomas for his tackling and James for his tireless running. A huge thanks to Mick for refereeing, and last but not least, thanks to the parents, who at times looked more nervous than the boys (and me). Your support is greatly appreciated.

Junior Rugby: Doncaster Knights under 9’s season kicks off to a good start

Sunday saw the contact rugby debut of the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights under 9’s, and this was no ordinary game !!

The boys got the chance to play at Headingley Carnegie during the half time interval in the premiership match between Leeds and Gloucester – in front of almost 6000 people. They handled themselves really well, and were not in intimidated by the crowd; in fact, with the twinkle toes of Aaron, the determination of James on his debut and the voices of BJ and Oliver, they positively rose to the occasion, and Conor's applause to the crowd on his way from the field was a clear indication of the enjoyment all round.

As coaches, we were really proud of the boys' first effort, and we are all really looking forward to our first competitive game against Newark on Sunday.

Charity Carwash Raises £200 for Keech Hospice Care

Friday saw the culmination of a month of fundraising for the annual Autoglass® day at Woburn Safari Park for Keech Hospice Care. This year, the weather was much more favourable compared to last, and whilst the rest of head office – dressed as their super heroes - played human table football, rode surf boards and ate from the barbeque, the retail repair team with support from SJ set about ‘washing’ (drywashing) cars with the waterless carwash product, Onedrywash, for the cause.

This was a great opportunity for the new management team to spend some time together, and they worked hard together, cleaning well over 20 cars, inside and out, to raise £200 for the cause.

Despite the senior management needing to keep checking on things inside, and SJ always finding a distraction, the day managed to pass by in a much more organized way than last year, and the team should be really proud of their efforts.

Next year, Tim from Onedrywash will be joining us. Well, he is much better with a cloth in his hand than SJ (just what we’ve heard !!)

Thanks to SJ for giving us his time and the tools to do the job, and thanks to everyone who let us loose on their cars :)

Junior rugby: preparations for the new season

2 weeks and counting

This week saw the half way point in the preparations for the new season for the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights Under 9’s. This was the start of week 3 of our 4-week preparations, and we are officially a rugby team !! We played our first practice match, 15 minutes of tackling, banging, boshing, scrummaging and organized chaos.

As head coach, it’s a nervous time, but this was 15 minutes of real rugby, of some slick passing, excellent support play and top tries. I have never felt more confident that, as a team, we will be ready for our first outing at Headingley on October 4th. The effort and development of the players has been fantastic, and the support for the coaching team from parents has been brilliant – thanks !!

Next weekend will see our last 2 sessions, and we will be pushing towards a full practice match. Keep up the hard work boys – good luck from the coaching team.

This week's session saw the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights Under 9’s reach the halfway point in the preparation for their contact rugby debut, and all the hard work looks to be paying off.

This weekend saw the boys experience their first scrum – a scary moment for mums and dads - their first lineout, and their first ‘real’ rugby!! As coaches, it's quite unnerving to see the team which took on the world last season have moments of looking like they have never played the game before. But the truth is, they never have – well not in this format. Nobody wants to stand in an attacking line waiting for a pass when they can run in and ‘BOSH’ someone and get it for themselves. Nobody wants to pass the ball to a team mate when they can run over someone, and who can blame them? The most important thing for us as coaches at this stage is to see the boys grasping the basics – which they are doing really well, and most importantly enjoying themselves – which, as the ear-to-ear, gumshield-baring smiles suggest, is very much the case.

We have 4 sessions left before our first outing, and if the current progress is anything to go by, I am sure it won't be long before we establish ourselves as ‘world beaters’ again. I am sure we are in the same position as every other team at this stage of the season. The difference for the Knights being the team spirit, the big smile and the desire to succeed – WATCH THIS SPACE.

New season begins for the Doncaster Knights under 9’s Rugby Team

Sunday (6th Sept) saw the first full training session of the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights Under 9’s.

The team has kept in contact over the summer with some get togethers at the local park, and last weekend saw the Knights' north sea challenge which was won by Luis Haythorne, closely followed by Joseph Tune and Conor Gilmore; they were after all the only ones daft enough to leave the relative safety of the beach at Bridlington. The team spent the afternoon at the fairground with one or two parents looking a bit more shaken than the boys !!

Pre-season dip

This week saw the team return to the real business of learning a whole new game of ‘contact’ rugby. The team paraded out in their new shoulder pads and head guards with newly fitted silencers – better know as gum shields - ensuring a peaceful day for the coaches. The squad has swelled in number over the summer and have a lot to learn over the coming weeks, but with the support of the coaches and the great effort being shown by the boys, all the signs point to another great season for the team.

They have 3 weeks left to prepare for their first outing at Headingley Carnegie during their premiership game with Gloucester. Then it's down to business with trips all over Yorkshire in the coming months.

Last week, Captain of the Onedrywash and Autoglass®-sponsored Doncaster Knights Under 8’s was chosen to represent Kirk Sandall Junior School under 11’s. Despite playing 3 years above his age, BJ led by example, scoring some excellent tries and was bitterly disappointed to be on the losing side in the final.

His day took a turn for the better though during the presentations when he was recognized as the ‘Donny Knight Young Player of the Year for 2009’.

Onedrywash in Dubai and on the radio

In our blog post of 25 Match 2009, we promised that more details and photos would follow about Onedrywash being in the UAE. Well, here we are, keeping that promise!

Waterwise, the Onedrywash distributors, based in Dubai, were recently invited to take part in a radio show called "Wheels" on Radio 2, 99.3FM (Saturdays 2-4pm), where the main topic of discussion is (you've guessed it) cars.

From left to right: In the studio - Dejan, Amit and Tom (all from Wheels magazine) and Rishi from Waterwise.ae. Unfortunately Sanuj from Waterwise is not in the picture because he was taking it.

While they were on air, they discussed cars (of course!), the environment, the fact that a major source of fresh water in UAE is derived from desalination plants and what a waste it is - both in terms of water and energy - when it is used to clean cars, and about how well Onedrywash is going to do in the UAE.

They also ran a phone-in competition, the prizes for which were 2 Onedrywash Valeting Kits.

A day out with the first team

Saturday saw the first public outing of the new Autoglass and Onedrywash-sponsored Doncaster Knights' first team players to promote rugby in the local area. So BJ, Oliver and Aaron decided to show them how it was done. After a slow first hour, the boys grabbed a first team player each and dragged them to meet their public!! A charming smile and the bribe of chocolate from some of the players saw the boys signing up members of the public to come and watch the first team play, and more importantly telling the world about junior rugby.

If we can carry this enthusiasm onto the pitch next season, we will be world beaters – well done boys!!

Grove Products (Caravan Accessories) Ltd, second largest wholesale distributor to the touring caravan and leisure market in the UK, now includes Onedrywash in the range of products it distributes.

They saw Onedrywash, the waterless vehicle cleaning product, at the NEC on the Towsure stand a few months ago a felt that it would fit nicely with the 5000 items they already sell.
